ALBION HOST SEASIDERS IN CUP SECOND ROUND

| 21/10/2016

Albion, having received a bye in the first round of the Somerset Cup this season, will now face Burnham-on-Sea on the weekend of 12/13 November.  The Western Counties side also received a bye.  This will be a repeat of the November 2012 encounter at the same stage at Stoddens Road when Albion won 38-10.  The first round of the Cup produced a disappointing outcome as only one of the three scheduled matches was played with Old Redcliffians beating Hornets 26-18.  Wellington (against Taunton) and Keynsham (against Weston-super-Mare) both withdrew – unfortunately another sign of the “us and them” syndrome which blights rugby football these days.  Unfortunately the days have gone when the lower league clubs relished challenging their higher opponents and these clubs do not seem to realise that upsets were abundant in the Somerset Cup in the early years.  Albion have lost all round the county in some unlikely places over the years – the enthusiasm for a contest seems to have gone.

The remainder of the draw is:-

Midsomer Norton v Old Redcliffians

Taunton v Clevedon

Weston-super-Mare v Bath University

The Somerset Vase however in contrast saw all four matches completed.  The draw for the semi-finals is:-

Gordano v Yeovil

Tor v Yatton
