Bridgwater and Albion 41- Teignmouth 21.

Match report by Richard Walsh

Bridgwater and Albion got their season off to a flying start when they scored five tries against Teignmouth to notch up a comfortable victory in a game that was played a furious pace throughout.

Before the start of the game a minutes silence was observed in memory of a number of Bridgwater and Albion stalwarts who have passed away during the summer month.

Teignmouth took the lead almost from the kick off thanks to Callum Browse who picked the ball up on the right wing and ran to the line to score a try that was converted by Mike Saxton.

The home side took a few minutes to settle but then they hit back courtesy of a charge down that eventually saw number 8 Brad Talbot on his Bridgwater debut scoring to the right of the posts which the reliable boot of Stuart Heal converted to level the scores.

Shortly afterwards the hosts took the lead thanks to a Heal penalty, and the Bridgwater kicker slotted home another on the 15 minute mark to extend the host’s lead.

Teignmouth came back strongly and mounted a series of attacks but the home defence held firm.

Just before the half hour mark Teignmouth’s Jack Bowen was yellow carded and from the re-start Talbot ran through to score on the left, which Heal again converted to make it 20-7 to the Somerset side at the break.

The hosts started the second half strongly and within two minutes Oscar Tregenna broke down the right wing before touching down behind the posts for a try that Heal converted.

Bridgwater were very much in the ascendancy at this stage of proceedings and went further ahead when the ball was chipped ahead on the right side and gathered by Kyran Devitt who raced through to score between the posts which Heal converted to make it 34-7.

Teignmouth kept fighting back and when Brigdwater had Dave Norman carded the visitors scored a pushover try through Luke Pattinson which was converted by Saxton.

Despite being a man down Bridgwater looked to attack at every opportunity and with 20 minutes to go Ryan Barnett ran through to score a try that Heal converted.

In the dying minutes the hosts had Talbot yellow carded and in his absence with the last play of the game Saxton scored a try for Teignmouth which he then converted to make the final score 41-21 to Bridgwater.
