Thornbury 32, BARFC 19 (22/10/16)

| 23/10/2016

Bridgwater and Albion travelled up the M5 to face a strong Thornbury side who had lost only one game this campaign but despite giving a vastly improved performance at the they came off second best and will be left regretting the number of penalties conceded.
The opening five minutes were frantic as Bridgy, with a well worked driving maul, sent Ali Blundell over the line only to be held up. However, within a couple of minutes a similar move resulted in a try for Luke Plummer, converted by Stuart Heal.
Thornbury responded strongly with a try into the corner, which was well converted to level the scores. Just before 20 minutes the hosts took the lead when they slotted home a penalty.
Five minutes later Joe Bussell came off feeling dizzy and was replaced by Andrew Chew in the front of the scrum.
Bridgy then enjoyed a really good running move when following a break from their 22, Luke Plummer, Rob Allen and Sam Britton made 40 metres before off loading to Oscar Tregenna who was bundled into touch just short of the line.
Just before the break Thornbury kicked a penalty followed quickly afterwards by an unconverted try in the corner from a good backs movement giving them a 18 – 7 half time lead.
Bridgwater had the advantage of playing down the slope in the second half but after five minutes it was Thornbury who went further ahead when they kicked a penalty. Shortly afterwards they converted another penalty to make the score 24-7.
However Bridgwater were far from done when after 15 minutes Luke Plummer went over for his second try of the game, that was not converted.
The visitors were pressing hard and were rewarded again when Roger Drabble ran in a try, that was converted by Heal to close the gap to 24 – 19.
Thornbury were awarded another penalty 27 minutes which gave them an eight point cushion.
On half an hour Thornbury put further daylight between themselves and Bridgy with an unconverted try which was the last score of the game which ended 32 – 19.
Ollie Dunn once again gave a good performance and was named by Thornbury as the Bridgwater Man of the Match.
