Chard 2nds vs BARFC Dirtrackers (3/11/17)

| 08/11/2017

Dirtracker Match Report

A depleted Albion Dirtracker side travelled to Chard on Friday night for their Somerset 2 South fixture. Chard fielded a side that was far stronger than their lowly league position suggested and were clearly determined to go all out for the win. Albion’s numbers totalled only 12 as a result of late withdrawals and work commitments with Chard unwilling to even up the sides or lend players the game started with 12 v 15.

Albion were near constantly on the back foot but defended resolutely and restricted Chard to scores out wide. Despite their numerical advantage Chard at times struggled to take advantage of the space available and the second 20 mins of the first half saw the game become degenerate into an arm wrestle resulting in more than one scuffle between teams. The physicality of the game and the defensive effort saw Albion suffer first half injuries to Jamie Day and Simon Buck both of whom were unable to return to the field of play. Half time score was 37-0. With the 2nd half about to resume the referee was made aware by a watching member of the SRRS that the game could not resume with Albion at 10 players. A solitary Chard player was given with them also reducing their playing numbers but still retaining their numerical advantage. Chard were the first to trouble the scoreboard again before Albion enjoyed their best spell of the game, stringing a number of phases together that saw a rare incursion into the Chard 22. From a ruck on their 5 metre line, scrum half Ollie Phillips was able to dummy an outside pass before diving over for the try with the conversion attempt drifting wide. The next 10 mins saw Chard exert pressure and exploit their numerical advantage to score further tries and keep the scoreboard ticking over. Further Albion pressure resulted in a 2nd try for the ever dangerous Sam Vowles, again unconverted. With a little over 10 mins of normal time remaining Chard scored their final try of the game with the referee blowing up early. This week the Dirtrackers entertain Winscombe 3rds and hope to be able to return to winning ways and field a full side.Team:
