BARFC Dirtrackers 0, Morganians 71 (22/10/16)

| 23/10/2016

My word how times change.  In the space of two seasons the composition of the Dirtrackers has remarkably altered.  The old stagers Willis, Coates, Frost, Page and Buck provide the historical connections and they were accompanied by many new and up and coming players – some of whom are former Colts, which is always good to see.  The Dirtrackers’ form has been patchy this season but the opposition have been in fine form, winning all of their matches to date and leading the league in some style.

As it was, Morganians showed why they are top of the table, scoring two converted tries in the opening ten minutes.  Albion however weathered that and hit back with a long period camped in the Morganians 22 but they could not make it count.  Morgs cleared upfield and Chandler was required to produce a fine tackle to save a certain try.  However, Albion then conceded a soft try as Morganians tapped a penalty near the line to crash over to extend the lead.  Four minutes later the speedy Morganians backs produced another try wide out.  Before half time they added two more tries, one of which was converted.  Albion had their moments and there was also some bravery with Frost covering back well to prevent a further score but injuring himself in the process.  Half time arrived with the visitors leading 38-0.

In the second half Morganians’ try procession continued as they extended the lead with a goal after five minutes.  Yet again Albion dug in and had a good attacking spell which the visitors defended stoically.  Morganians were always dangerous on the break and on several occasions in this half, produced scores from 50/60 metres with their fast backs running through.  Albion still had their moments and threatened but once again a Morganians interception from their own 22 frustrated any Albion attempts.  In the second half the visitor ran in five further tries to enhance their top of the table position.

This week, the Dirtrackers visit Martock against whom the results have usually gone our way and a fillip of a win would do no harm.
