ALBION SADNESS AS FORMER PLAYER KEN WALKER PASSES AWAY

| 02/11/2015

Players from the mid-1970’s to early 1980’s will be sad to have learned of the death of Ken (Kenny) Walker who sadly passed away recently after a short illness.  Ken started out his rugby football career at Burnham-on-Sea where he turned in some useful performances in the second row.  Living in Bridgwater, he then threw in his lot at the Broadway Ground in the mid-1970’s together with several other Burnham-on-Sea contemporaries such as Malcolm Singleton, Steve Paul, Pete Smith and will also have been at the club when the Burne brothers – Paul, Neville and Mark joined from the seaside club.  Kenny frequently made our 1st XV partnering the likes of Richard Bell, Derek Wheeler, Pat Donovan and Stan Cook in the second row.  He was a rangy line-out jumper (no lifting in those days) – equally good at the front or in the middle of the line.  He was a grafting forward who always gave everything to his own performance and to the team.  Prematurely grey and moustachioed – he often surprised opponents with his agility and strength.  Kenny was a partner in the local carpentry firm Oxman and Walker operating from Old Taunton Road and had just retired from business.  Bridgwater & Albion sends its sincere condolences to Kenny’s family at this stressful time.
