MELVIN (MEL) DIMENT

| 27/04/2018

Mel played in our Colts XV in the late 1970’s and in to the 1980’s. He then graduated to both our Athletic (Dirtrackers) and United XV’s. He was an industrious player mainly featuring at flank but capable of filling other positions. He always enjoyed his football with the club and could be relied upon for a solid performance. He continued to play for the club for a further ten seasons or so after leaving the Colts XV.

He was often accompanied by his brother Bryn who also played through the Colts XV and came up through the senior ranks – he was a utility back mainly playing at stand-off or full-back and with a very sound boot both from the hand and at goal.

The Diment family connection with the club was cemented with late father David being ace sports reporter for the Bridgwater Mercury for a long period during which he covered Bridgwater & Albion matches with some comprehensive style and of considerable volume. Late mother Renee served on our Ladies Committee.

The club offers its sincere condolences to Mel’s wife and family. His funeral is to be held at Sedgemoor Crematorium, Stretcholt at 12 noon on Monday 30 April – colourful casual attire is requested.
