On behalf of Bridgwater and Albion RFC I would like to extend a warm welcome to a new season of youth rugby to all of our parents, players and supporters. Whether you are joining the club as a new recruit or are a returning member, I hope you have all had a brilliant summer and are looking forward to enjoying what I hope will be another great year of rugby.

This year I ask that you continue to support the game, the players and the club in a positive manner and remember the core values of the sport; teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship. I also remind you that all of our coaches are volunteers who give up their Sunday mornings (and Wednesday evenings) in all weathers to help your children enjoy their rugby.

We have some exciting plans for this year and have decided to introduce this newsletter to keep you up to date with all that’s happening within Bridgwater and Albion Youth section.

Finally, I hope all players have an exciting and injury free season and that everyone enjoys their rugby

Fundraising

Bridgwater and Albion Youth Section relies on the generosity of our sponsors, members and the RFC to provide excellent coaching and equipment to its young members. Another vital source of funding for us over the course of last season has been The Lunch Box snack van.

Sadly, The Lunch Box has been targeted by vandals three times over the course of the last year and as such we would like to invest in an improved and more secure facility to provide you with hot food and drinks on cold winter mornings as well as continue to raise vital funds for the Youth Section players.

Other Fundraisers for the new season:

Second hand kit sale if you have old kit in usable and clean condition, please bring this to Chris in The Lunch Box. We will collate donations and announce kit sales throughout the season. Funds raised will support a bursary fund to provide kit for low income families and ensure everyone can access this fantastic sport!

Smarties Tubes Collect a FREE tube of Smarties for each child who is a member of the club and return it to us filled with 20p pieces (families with more than one member need only return one tube) – get yours from Chris in The Lunch Box now. Attention kids! Check out the back of this newsletter for ideas on how to earn lots of 20p pieces around the house….

The Great Bridgy Bake Off Following the success of last season’s bake sales we thought we’d add a little competition to this season. I you would like to enter the Great Bridgy Bake Off pay a £1 entry fee, each week the winner (judged by baking expert Rob Taylor) will receive 50% of the entry fund with the remainder supporting the Youth Section.

Date for your diary as in previous years, this year we will again be asking for your support on Carnival night on Saturday 4th November. This will be for players to collect coins from the crowd as part of the procession as well as to sell programmes and novelties. In previous years this has been extremely well supported by the younger age groups at the club but we’d love to see some of our older players being more involved too. If you are able to help on carnival night please let your team manager or coach know.

Events this year we would like to hold more events that the whole family can enjoy such as quiz nights and race nights, look out for dates of these both via the newsletter and on the Facebook group chat.

Sponsorship Do you or a family member run a business? Have you thought of sponsoring the youth section? We have many different sponsorship packages available, if you are interested please speak to Matt Ranson for more information or email matt@barfc.co.uk

Your Views Matter

We value your feedback and are always looking for ways to improve and strengthen our Youth Section. As such we will be giving each of you a short questionnaire to complete at the sign up day on 3rd September. Please return these to any committee member as soon as possible and we will do our best to make the changes you want.
