Albion coach pleased with Bideford performance

| 22/02/2017

Simon Morrell the Bridgwater and Albion head coach was full of praise for his side after watching them notch up the double over a strong and combative Bideford side.

“It was a superb the boys played really well and this was one of our best performances of the season. This season we have beaten Bideford both home and away which takes some doing and is quite significant – we lost down there by 50 points last year.

“This was a really encouraging performance, but we won’t be getting carried away!

Morrell went on: “When the players came off the field you could see just how much they had wanted that win and they were absolutely exhausted. We didn’t fold and didn’t buckle under pressure, and what was good for me was our tenacity and intensity in defence. We allowed them to hold the ball and go through multiple phases, stand up to them and be were confident in our system that we would turn the ball over which was exceptional.

“We lost focus for the last minute in the first half when they showed just how dangerous they could be and scored after a 50 metre break.

The head coach picked out some of players who had impressed him

“I thought that Luke Plummer and Stuart Heal in that 10/12 link up worked really well fir us. In our own half they got the ball out and when we got to the strike zone we created so many opportunities to score.  Nick Spellissy and Harry Collins again did well for us.”

The head coach added: “It’s all coming together nicely for us now so full credit to the boys they gave it all that they had and got their just rewards so now its onwards and upwards for us.”

Albion 1st XV are without a game this coming weekend but return to College Way on Saturday March 4th to face Kingsbridge in South West One (West). Bridgy 2nd XV and the Dirtrackers are however playing and would welcome your support:
