| 15/08/2017

Simon MorrellBridgwater and Albion kick off their 2017-18 campaign in South West One (West) with a home fixture against Teignmouth on September 2nd, which is less than three weeks away.

On Saturday they suffered the frustration of having their pre-season game against Chard called off by their opponents. However the Albion will continue their preparations this coming weekend with an away fixture at Chew Valley followed by a match at Winscombe on the 24th.

During the off season the Albion boss Simon Morrell has had to undertake something of a rebuild following the departure of several players who have had to retire or move on.

“Thankfully however we are now pretty much there in terms of recruiting and details of our new signings will be released ahead of the new campaign. We have been fairly strategic with this process and have prioritized quality and not necessarily quantity.”

Morrell continued: “Last season we had an amazing squad all capable of playing at Level 6 with a number of lads able to step up a league or two above. We hope the guys we have pulled in will bring that little bit of ‘X factor’ and the knock on effect will only be to strengthen each of senior squads.”

“At Bridgy we have a number of talented youngsters who can really make waves this year. In fact, this is certainly the direction the club is now heading in, investing time in the home grown talent and plugging the occasional ‘gaps’ with the guys who can add some significant value to group.”

“During the off season we have given the boys every opportunity to extend their core skills and game awareness from our coaches and players like Kyran Devitt, Mike Saunders, Gav Knight and Tom Fornier have really taken advantage of this and are ready to burst ahead of the new season.”

Looking ahead to the new season Morrell said: “I expect to see a smaller and tighter senior squad than last year, but, a squad with that little bit extra fire-power and cutting edge.”
