‘Credit to the boys’ says Simon

| 05/12/2016

After the game Simon Morrell the head coach said: “The game was played exactly as it had to be if we were going to get a win with the side that we fielded.

“Obviously we were aided by the red card but that was probably the bit of luck we needed and balanced things out a little bit in our favour.

“Putting two back row players into the midfield worked well for us because apart from their first try and penalty score we defended well and kept a really lively Drybrook in tow.

“Credit to the boys because that puts us into a strong position going forward and it will be more of the same for this weekend’s game at Midsomer Norton.

“However that fighting spirit and the doggedness we showed out on the park will put us into a good position when we face a Thornbury or Clevedon next time round.

“In fairness Drybrook defended well, but we are a little bit naive when we get through to two metres from the try line. Defensively teams really wake up when you are that close and there are a lot of things that we can do to make sure that we just keep hold of the ball and get over that line.

“We need to be more cute with the ball when we are in that last pass zone and that is something that we will be working on this week definitely.

“The good news for us is that we didn’t pick up any more injuries against Drybrook and hopefully we will have Sam Britton back for Saturday.

This coming Saturday the Albion, who are currently in 10th place in the table travel to face Midsomer Norton who are next to the bottom and were beaten 80-7 at Matson last weekend.

Despite their lowly position Morrell expects his side to face another tough encounter.

“We will have to go there and produce the same kind of fighting performance if we are to come away with another win on Saturday. We will probably re-jig things slightly to ensure that the pack is at full strength and we have got a couple of guys to bring into that back line.

He added: “Had we lost against Drybrook it would have been incredibly tough to turn around from, but because we won the way that we did we can move forward.”
