Geoff Says

| 21/10/2018

Geoff Sluman the director of rugby at Bridgwater and Albion admitted that Launceston did everything a little bit better than his side on Saturday afternoon at the end of which the Cornish side ran out 60-33 winners.

Reflecting on the match that was played in front of a large crowd boosted by the 220 members and guests who were attending a lunch hosted by the Friends of Bridgwater and Albion said: “We won’t dress the result up in any way, it was disappointing and not what we were targeting.

“Launceston just did everything a little bit better than us. They took their chances where as we didn’t capitalize on all of our opportunities. Add to that a couple of interception tries that we gave away and you get the result we did.”

Despite his disappointment there were elements that Geoff was happy with and that the result was a bit of a reality check for his side.

“We were pleased with the way we kept our shape throughout the game and very pleased with the way the team never gave up and kept pushing for a score. We were rewarded by getting a try bonus point, so we take something from the game. We will also take a lot of learning and in all honesty, it probably was a bit of a reality check.”

“It is now all about how, as a group, we respond. The squad wins together, loses together and whichever result socializes together – that is an important part of the recovery process! Therefore, I have no worries about the response being anything other than the right one.”

This coming Saturday the Albion make the trip to the Forest of Dean to take on Lydney.

“Obviously, a part of the response will be looking forward to our next match which will be away against Lydney. We have not played them for several years now and they have just dropped into this league from the one above this season. They have had mixed results so far but their best coming when they play at home so we will need to recover quickly and take the game to them on Saturday.”
