Geoff Sluman the Bridgwater and Albion director of rugby agreed afterwards that Saturday’s fixture against Okehampton was a game of two very differing halves.

“I thought that we played the first half brilliantly. Our tactical kicking was excellent, our ball carrying very solid and our defence operated to a high standard. As a result, we went in at half time 16-0 up.

“Our half time analysis and reviews went well. Then the second half started and it all went seriously wrong. We know where it went wrong, but I don’t particularly want to publish it, in case any future opposition read it.

“Okehampton are not second in the league for nothing, they are a good side that responded to the challenges very well. All that second half can give us now is the gift of learning.

“The players all worked hard and didn’t give up they stuck to the task and showed some character. It was the first game this season that we didn’t gain any league points because in other losses we have always picked up bonus points.”

The Albion boss went on: “We will be looking for a reaction next week, when we face a difficult away trip to St Ives. They are a side we have not played for many years so we know very little about them. They are now one league place above us and of course we have a long journey to get there so we will have to get all off or preparation right.”

Turning his attention to the Albion Second XV Sluman said: “Our Second XV had an encouraging win this week against Crewkerne RFC. They now have a local derby match against North Petherton Seconds that will be played on Friday night at Bridgwater & Albion RFC with kick off at 19:30 hours – come on down at get your weekend fix of rugby on Friday night and support the second team.”
