Geoff Says

| 03/12/2018

Despite his side losing out in Cornwall on Saturday, Geoff Sluman the Bridgwater and Albion director of rugby was pleased overall with his side’s performance.

Reflecting on the game Geoff said: “You are never pleased to not win but I was pleased with the performance. The collective effort was excellent and was the response we were looking for.

“St Ives is a difficult team to come to play against, I certainly do not mean the location, there is nothing in that at all. It is the fact that they were a big side in their forwards, pacy in their backs and were organised and very well coached.

“Our response was positive, our work rate was excellent, the individual mistakes drastically reduced and the cohesion much better. We knew it was going to be a tough game, but the longer the game went on the better we looked and whilst it counts for little in the result we definitely finished as the stronger team.

“It feels like the performance turned a corner for us and we are now back on the upward trajectory. We had a couple of guys making debuts and players scoring their first tries for the club so we are adding to the depth of our playing resources with the players all doing well.

“We picked up a four try bonus point away from home, against a difficult team, so apart from that game against Okehampton, we have gained league points in every match.”

Geoff went on:”The test of all of the above will be over the next couple of games. The run up to Christmas is always a bit of a stretch.

“Next week we host Teignmouth RFC, traditionally there has been plenty of competition and close games between us. I know that whichever group of players we select for the game they will want to put in a great performance.”
