Thornbury 17- Bridgwater and Albion 18.

Bridgwater and Albion started their season with a narrow victory at Thornbury, where they turned in a battling all round performance against a team they have only beaten once in the last five years away from home.

Thornbury kicked off down the slope and from the off their rangy forwards drove well and after just three minutes scrum half Jak Evans went over for a try that full back Jake Wood then converted.

Wood added to the Thornbury score when he slotted home a penalty from 30 metres on 11 minutes.

Shortly after Stuart Heal, skippering the side reduced the arrears got the visitors on the scoresheet when he kicked a penalty, to make it 10-3.

Bridgwater rallied well and attacked strongly and on 22 minutes they got their reward when Number 8 Ollie Steward made a good break before he was bundled into touch close to the Thornbury line and from the resultant line out player coach Wayne Sprangle scored a try that Heal converted to level the scores.

Thornbury wasted no time in regaining the lead and shortly after the re-start Mike Beswick scored a try in the corner which Wood converted.

Once again Bridgwater came back strongly and following a period of pressure on the half hour Tom Fournier scored a try in the corner which made the half time score 17-15.

The second half started with Thornbury on the attack, but the Bridgwater defence stood firm and form much of the time it was the visitors who had most of the possession.

The clock was ticking down but with six minutes remaining Bridgwater were awarded a penalty which Heal kicked successfully to edge his side in front by a single point.

With the final play Thornbury were awarded a long distance penalty on the half way, which was missed and at the final whistle it was Bridgwater who claimed the spoils 18-17.
