Yatton RFC II’s 10, B&A RFC II’s 14 (15/09/12)

| 11/04/2013

Playing down the slope in the first half Bridgwater applied pressure following the kick off which the Yatton forwards failed to deal with. Bridgwater continued to attack with some thrusting drives from the forwards and powerful lines from the backs.

Good play was rewarded with a try for Captain Joe Stradling on ten minutes, he gathered the ball from the back of a ruck and sidestepped and powered his way over the line following a 30 metre run. Brice Le Capentier added the extras.

Following the restart Bridgwater continued in the same vein, and after several minutes of continued dominance were rewarded with a sniping try by La Capentier who, after dummying the Yatton defence dived over the line. He then added the extras himself.

Bridgwater pushed for the remainder of the first half but were unable to further add to their score. In Yatton’s only real attack of the half a penalty was conceded, and duely converted by the Yatton number 10.

Early on in the 2nd half an optimistic kick by Yatton enabled their tall winger to gather the ball after several unpredictable bounces, and score a opportunistic try, this was then converted to make the scores 14-10 to Bridgwater.

Bridgwater regathered themselves and relentlessly attacked with some tremendous runs from Luke Da Sylva, Dan Lang, La Capentier and the Kerry brothers, however Bridgwater were unable to convert these attacks into points, in part due to some dubious refereeing decisions, despite him being nowhere near the play, including awarding a scrum to Yatton, even though it was Yatton who knocked the ball on. Somewhat unprofessionally, he apologised for these mistakes as play was carrying on.

Overall the game was played in good spirit and the 2nd’s showed a great deal of promise, and secured a good first win of the season away on a difficult pitch. A lot of good points can be taken away from this performance, including, improved structure and organisation throughout the team.
