Albion Dirtrackers -Match Report

| 01/12/2017

Albion Dirtrackers made the short journey across to close friends Somerton buoyed in the knowledge that they were travelling with a full side to face a side strong in numbers and an ambition of promotion. Somerton kicked off and straight away applied pressure to make an Albion exit from their own 22 difficult. Early exchanges were keenly contested with Somertons dangerous backs threatening to break through but for a strong defensive effort. The deadlock was broken 6 mins in with Somerton scoring an unconverted try. In open play the game was played at a high pace with Somertons cohesion being apparent against a resolute Albion defence. Albion held the ascendency in the set piece but were unable to capitalise or build any real momentum. Two further converted tries were scored by Somerton before Albion’s best period of the game was rewarded with a penalty try on half time which also saw Somerton loose head prop receiving 10 mins in the bin following one penalty too many for the referee’s liking. The 2nd half saw Albion playing with the elements but it was Somerton who again started the stronger, scoring a further try barely 5 mins into the half. Albions defence remained resolute but superior fitness so Somerton impose their play further with a further 5 tries during the half, 3 of which were scored in the closing period of the game. Many positives to take from the game, including yet another strong forward display and backs looking dangerous when given the opportunity to run and get in behind opposition defence.
