Double Celebrations at Bridgy (11/09/12)

| 11/04/2013

There was plenty to celebrate at Bridgwater and Albion over the weekend- the First XV beat North Dorset on Saturday and Sunday morning Jon Bendle the RFU  Development Officer for West Somerset and North and East Devon was at College Way to present the Club with their RFU Accreditation Award.

Club chairman Steve Smith said: “It is fantastic that Bridgwater and Albion have secured the RFU Accreditation and our Youth Section has played a substantial part in helping us towards this prestigious award. It sets Bridgwater and Albion up as a ‘whole club’ going forward and we are in a much better position as a result of this achievement.”

Steve added:“Rugby is all about taking young people and training them in a sport that is disciplined and that will give them enjoyment, while for the Club it means that we are bringing on our own talent and playing at the highest level we can with them rather than having to buy them in.”

Jon Bendle from the RFU said:“Bridgwater and Albion is a very historic Club, long established in the town and well known across the region and you only have to come down to see how well supported they are.”

“The junior section has moved forward massively over the last 12 months under Youth Section Chairman Paul Brookes and the Youth Section committee, and the Club Chairman is very much aware that this is one whole Club and that’s the way that they want to go in the future.”

Jon added went on: “Yes the first team is the pinnacle and make the news headlines, but actually to see 150 youngsters along with their parents here on Sunday morning is fantastic and very exciting for the Club. This
accreditation is a well deserved reward for all the work that they have undertaken over the last year and we have already identified that Bridgwater and Albion is one of the clubs in the area we should help in the next 12 months.”
