LOCAL BOY ROB ALLEN REACHES HIS TON UP TO ADD TO THE

BURGEONING EXPERIENCE OF ALBION’S CURRENT SQUAD

Rob Allen – Albion’s locally produced centre/wing is set to make his 100th appearance in the 1st XV at Camborne on Saturday 10 April.  Rob becomes the 12th member of this season’s consistent squad to achieve a notable landmark in his career.  Already Nick Francis, Stuart Heal, Rob Thompson, Gervis Manupenu and Joe Bussell have reached 50 appearances; Nick Spellissy and Garron Basson have been awarded their badges at 75; Ali Blundell and Olly Dunn have passed the 100 mark; Matt Hastie was recently capped at 250; Dan Kemmish goes on beyond the 300 mark.  Such experience has clearly counted as overall playing performances and record has improved immeasurably this season.

Rob Allen is in his 5th full season with the club, having been developed through our Juniors and Colts XV before taking a temporary place at Hartpury College.  Whilst coming through the club’s Mini, Junior and Youth sections, Rob played for Somerset at U15, U16 and U18 levels and advanced to U20 and Saxons.  However his representative highlight was playing for and captaining England Colleges against Portugal U20’s in Lisbon.

In Albion terms Rob made his 1st XV debut on 23 November 2008 in a Somerset Cup match at Yatton, winning 36-0.  His first try came in the short-lived revival of the Baker Cup on 27 December 2008 at Taunton in a runaway 44-14 victory (ironically a few days later we also defeated Weston-super-Mare 40-12 in that competition).  He made five appearances in that first season but missed the whole of the 2009/10 season due to his Hartpury commitments.  He returned to Albion in 2010/11 and reboosted his appearances and try-scoring.  Rob has been the heart of our attack and indeed defence for these last five seasons and has also made a successful switch to the wing when required and is still running in the tries.  He is a strong player and able to breach defences and then let us speed take over to gain the full benefit.  He also applies solid defence and although just 24 years of age, already has useful experience under his belt and should be the mainstay of our side for many seasons to come.  He has reached the 100 mark in some style this season, scoring 14 tries from his 19 appearances and has already secured 45 tries – an excellent scoring pattern and long may it continue.  Rob’s Albion ambition now is to continue to play in the team and to reach 250 appearances for his cap – an excellent attitude and one which ought to serve the club well in seasons to come.

And of course we must not forget one James “Roly” Bryant who like old father time just keeps rolying along beyond 350 and on to infinity!
