Bridgwater & Albion Colts 94 – 10 Minehead Colts (23/11/13)

Bridgwater Colts extended their winning league  run to 5 matches by a comprehensive 16 try defeat of their coastal rivals at Bath Road on Saturday.

Minehead arrived with just 11 players which the home side matched, and within eight minutes Bridgy were 17 points to the good.  The half was really a domination of Minehead through both backs and forwards, and with a Minehead lack of front row was reduced to uncontested five man scrums.  What the visitors lacked in ability they more than made up for in spirit and with just a couple of minutes to half time and a score of 41 – 0, lazy running from Bridgwater allowed Minehead to score an unconverted try. Bridgy hit back immediately and the half ended at 48 – 5.

Bridgwater experimented with player positions throughout the second period with a variety of changes which probably kept the score down.  They still however crossed their opponents line a further eight times, but annoyingly allowed Minehead in for a second try.  The half continued much as the first period ending in an expected big win for Bridgwater.

The Minehead lads are to be complimented for their spirit given recent league defeats.  They were not complaining, did their best and should be proud to represent their club.

Next matches for Albion Colts are Sunday 1st December away at Midsommer Norton in the Somerset Cup, and home on Saturday 7th in the league to a good Wellington side.
