Wiveliscombe 19, B&A RFC Colts 27 (10/11/12)

| 11/04/2013

Bridgwater & Albion Colts were mostly dominant in this match and squandered a number of clear oportunities to score heavily by some poor decision making. However a visit to Wivvy is never easy they came away with 5 precious league points on a fairly sticky pitch.

Albion went ahead after just 4 minutes when No8 Harry Roles picked up at the back of a scrum and crossed the Wivvy line following a jinking run from full Back Carl Peters. The conversion though was missed.

On 8 minutes Roles was at it again this time breaking two tackles to crash over but again the extras went begging.

After 20 minutes the home side mounted a determined attack moving the ball quickly through their forwards but Bridgy’s pack were up to the task and stole the ball on halfway something they were very good at all match. The ball came to Peters who ran in to score again, out wide but again the conversion failed.

On 26 minutes the home side got their first points when they won a 30 metre lineout and although Bridgwater defended stoutly they finally ran out of defenders but Wivvy failed to convert for the extras.

It was definitely not a day for kicking as on the stroke of Half Time Bridgy missed a fairly simple penalty and the half ended at 5 – 15.

Bridgwater started the second period as they had the first when after just 4 minutes Prop Peter Oram, today playing Outside Centre, scored the bonus point try after several minutes of huge sustained pressure in Wivvy’s 5 metre zone.

Bridgwater then conceded a further try by poor defensive passing that was intercepted by a Wiveliscombe Winger who ran fully 70 meteres to score a converted try.

With 15 minutes of play left Oram scored his second try when he intercepted a longish Wivvy pass in Bridgwater’s half, just making it to their line before the defence got to him. This time the extras were gratefully taken.

The final score came just a few minutes from the end of play when Wiveliscombe took advantage of another defensive error and poor tackling to add a further converted try.

Bridgwater are at home to Wellington Colts this coming Friday at 7.30pm.  See website for confirmation.
