Sept14-1433The Bridgy lads were understandably very pleased with their dominant win over Burnham on Sea after suffering a 2 point defeat to them away last week.

Bridgwater managed a grand total of seven tries to Burnham’s two and demonstrated a fantastic all round team effort. Bridgwater used their significant size difference to their advantage on more than one occasion, but the smaller Burnham players didn’t let this put them off and coped really well with the hard ground.

Burnham started the stronger team with most of the possession, albeit in their own half, for the first 10 minutes. During this time, Bridgwater only really had the ball twice and on both occasions, Bon Fear made valiant breaks for the line, but lost the ball just short. His third attempt however was successful and he scored the first of his three tries for the morning.

Following this try, Burnham kept up the pressure; however poor defensive work let Bridgwater through for another. From the resultant kick off, Bridgwater took the ball back into the Burnham half where an attempted Burnham clearance was charged down and the ball landed in front of BARFC returnee and Captain Josh Walker who went over the line to score Bridgy’s third. All three tries were converted making the score 21-0.

Burnham however did not give up and just before the interval made a break themselves and scored under the posts to make the half time score, Bridgwater 21, Burnham 7.

Bridgwater started the second half well and moving the ball well from one side of the pitch to the other caught Burnham off guard on several occasions and put in four more tries, three of which were converted, before Burnham troubled the scoreboard again.

Despite the heavy score line, Burnham attacked where they could and broke through to score towards the end of the second half. They could have scored again with the last play of the match, but an errant foot into touch 5m from the line put paid to that.

The final score was 40 points to 12. The Bridgwater team will be rightfully proud of their victory as they really gelled as team and generally ran the ball well. There are some areas that will need work but this really is being picky.

Bridgwater and Burnham teams should take credit from this match, both from their own discipline and the manner in which the game was played. They truly are a credit to both clubs. Well done to all – a great game to watch!
