| 07/10/2026

BRIDGWATER & Albion maintained their bright start to the season with a decisive 42-12 home win over neighbours Taunton 2nd XV in Counties Two Somerset.

Both sides fielded young teams but Albion were a little more street-wise and were mostly in control of the match.

Albion went ahead when right winger Kyran Devitt kicked a penalty after only two minutes, although Taunton responded quickly with a try by Henry Batty for a 5-3 lead to the visitors.

Albion were quickly back in front when Ryan Barnett snapped up a try which was converted by Devitt, making the score 10-5.

Taunton failed to clear from the kick-off and Albion quickly added to their lead when Harvey Fisher was bundled over by his marauding pack which was unconverted.

In the 22nd minute Taunton came under pressure on their own line and an attempted clearance was charged down and Charlie Willcox pounced to score for a half-time lead of 20-5 to Albion.

After a quiet first ten minutes to the second half, Albion stretched their lead to 23-5 with a penalty by Devitt who was having  a fine game.

Taunton looked like reducing Albion’s lead but a knock-on prevented them scoring a try.

On 60 minutes, Albion lost the ball in defence and James Gailey reduced Taunton’s lead with a try which was converted by James Collins.

Albion hit back with a try by Devitt after a great kick by Jay Owens – although the conversion was missed.

Albion scored again through Devitt when the ball was swung across Taunton’s line and he converted his own try for a 35-12 lead.

In the closing stages Bridgwater added more points to their total with a try by Shaun Mahoney with Man of the Match Devitt kicking the conversion points.
