Chew Valley Second XV 7-55 Bridgwater & Albion RFC – Match Report

| 21/10/2026

Bridgwater and Albion sit top of the table after a comfortable nine-try victory on the road against Chew Valley Seconds to maintain their 100 % start to the season

Fielding probably their youngest three quarter line for a long while, despite spending the opening quarter of the match in Chew territory and creating a number of chances, including a disallowed try from Shaun Mahoney, they failed to take the lead.

All that changed in the 22nd minute when Rowan Traynor initiated a move when he stole an opposition line out, then reappeared to drive through before touching down  for an unconverted try.

Albion were now buzzing in attack and good work by both the backs and forwards saw Barber make good ground before Jono Hayes was forced into touch on the opposite side. The visitors kept up the pressure and after a Shaun Mahoney burst Karolis Urbinas forced his way over, with Josh Frost adding the extras to make it 12-0 after 29 minutes.

Harvey Fisher disrupted a Chew long throw and the Albion took the ball back up the field. Following a quickly taken penalty Harry Pentelow crashed over for an unconverted try.

The visitors were in a dominant mood by now  and from the kick off Traynor burst through and some excellent play from Frost saw him collect a loose ball, chip over the defence and catch it before passing to Reuben Lloyd who set the three quarters moving before Shaun Mahoney squeezed over in the corner.

Immediately from the kick off Albion were back onto the attack in the left hand corner where Fisher passed to Shaun Mahoney who went over for this second try of the half making the score 27-0 at the interval.

The visitors started slowly after the break but in the 49th minute Jackson Hurley cleverly jinked his way round some tackles in midfield before Frost took it on and the ball reached Ryan Barnett who ran in from 22 metres to score a try that Frost converted.

On the hour Chew managed to work their way into Albion territory and eventually scored a converted try making the score 34-7.

The hosts tried to move the ball from their own line but Hurley intercepted and went over for a try that Frost converted.

Albion went straight back onto the attack creating pressure on the Chew line which saw Shaun Mahoney burst over for his hat trick try which Frost converted.

Chew had a last gasp sortie into the visitor’s half but they were repelled before Hurley made a neat break before passing to Jon Hill who burst up field and as a result of good passing Jono Hayes ran in behind the posts which Frost converted making the final score 55-7.

This Saturday the Albion are once again on the road this time travelling to play against Keynsham Seconds.
