Bridgwater & Albion RFC notched up their first victory of the season when they ran out the winners at the ed of a tense and hard fought game against Chosen Hill Former Pupils on Saturday.
Kicking off into the wind the hosts took the lead after a minute. Graham Slorance, who made his first appearance of the season, crashed over in the left hand corner.
The visitors who also went into this game without a victory came back strongly. Although after a series of moves saw them deep into Albion territory the ball was dropped and the threat cleared.
Bridgwater were quickly back onto the attack and extended their lead. Stu Heal slotted home a penalty on 15 minutes.
Away team bounced back
Chosen Hill bounced back with a move that started on the left and saw the ball worked across their backs. This was before Mills dodged a couple of tackles and crossed for an unconverted try, making the score 8-5.
The visitors kept pushing hard. After 25 minutes they took the lead when Probin went over from close range for a try. Matthews converted.
Soon afterwards Tom West made a powerful charge forward deep into the Chosen Hill half. This resulted in Albion being awarded a penalty that Heal made no mistake with.
On going pressure from the visitors
In the closing stages of the first half the visitors created a period of pressure. They were rewarded on 35 minutes when Rennebach went in for a try which Matthews converted, following which there was no further score making it 11-19 at the break.
Chosen Hill came out strongly after half time and a try from Cummings extended their lead to 11-24.
Bridgwater responded almost immediately and a rolling maul following a scrum 20 metres out resulted in Gavin Knight crashing over by the left hand corner post to narrow the gap.
Five minutes later Chosen Hill were reduced to 14 when skipper Matthews was sent off for foul play following an incident close to their try line.
Try for Pentelow
From the restart Harry Pentelow went over for a try which Heal converted to make the score 23-24.
