Bridgwater & Albion RFC New Year Update
At the halfway stage of the season, Bridgwater & Albion RFC occupy 10th place in Western Counties (North). They have accrued 20 points from their 11 matches. Two clubs are below them, Chosen Hill Former Pupils who are at the bottom with 9 points from 10 matches and Taunton Seconds who have 12 points from their 11 games.
The two matches that the Albion have won have both been at home, against Chosen Hill and Chard
Bridgwater & Albion RFC have played attacking rugby throughout the season and when they have got it right have looked very impressive as they did in their two most recent home matches- against Chard, which they won and table toppers Nailsea and Backwell who they led at half time and earned a well-deserved bonus point from.
However the Albion’s defence has leaked more points than any other side in terms of league, and at times they have not been helped by their own indiscipline
In several of the games they have lost it has been by narrow margins – by the odd point away at Gordano and by four at Gordon League, both of which on others occasion might have worked out differently.
Bridgwater & Albion RFC 2nd XV
Looking into the new year Albion are back in action on Saturday 10th January when they host Taunton Second XV, against whom, assuming they are able to field their strongest team the hosts will be hoping to notch up a victory to start their climb up the table away from the relegation zone.
The Albion Second XV have enjoyed a very successful first half of the season in Somerset 3 (South) and find themselves in fourth place in the table, having won six of their league fixtures and scoring an average of 37 points per game.
The Second XV resume after the festive break on Friday 9th January when they travel to play against Weston super Mare under lights.
Bridgwater & Albion RFC 3rd XV
In Somerset 4 (South) the Albion Third XV have played nine matches two of which they have won and currently occupy ninth position in the table. The Thirds return to action with a home tie against Tor Seconds on Saturday 10th January.
The Albion junior sides continue to thrive, testament to which is the number of regular first teamers who have come through the age groups, and just before Christmas, four of the Albion Colts played for Somerset RFC Under 18s.
Bridgwater and Albion Women’s XV continues to thrive and are growing in numbers. Although they have ended on the losing side in each of their games they have been very well supported and put in a strong performance on each occasion.
The Albion Women’s XV play their next game on Sunday 11th January when they are away against Chew Valley Cats.
The Beth Branson Memorial Match that took place on Friday November 14th attracted over 1000 people and raised over £8.5k in memory of our special girl.
