Bridgwater & Albion RFC – Saturday 31st January – Match Day Report –

| 03/02/2026

Bridgwater & Albion RFC went down to a thrilling 28-27 home defeat against Clifton Seconds in their latest rugby match in Counties One Western North.

It means Albion remain in seventh place in the division while Clifton are up to third in the table – but someway behind the two teams above them, Nailsea & Backwell and Dings Crusaders.

Albion, who were forced to make changes following two successive wins, made a poor start.  Clifton took the lead with a try, which was converted after only seven minutes.

Albion hit back with an unconverted try by Shaun Mahoney to reduce the deficit to only two points.  And not long after, Albion took the lead with a try by Harry Fisher, which was again unconverted.

The home side increased their lead with the last play of the first half.  Taylor Buller took a quick penalty before bursting over to make it 15-7 at the interval.

The second half

Clifton began the second half looking sharper and scored a try which was converted to go to within one point of their rivals in an absorbing game.

Albion, however, stretched their lead when Alex Knight snapped up a try in the 58th minute.  This was converted by Jay Owens (22-14).  Seven minutes later, Clifton moved the ball wide to score a try.  This was also converted to move to within one point of the home side.  And the visitors went ahead with a try after running the ball wide.  This was converted in the 74th minute, putting Clifton 28-22 ahead.  However, Albion fought back.  Mahoney went over for his second try of the match late on – but the vital conversion kick was missed.
