Chard 27- Bridgwater and Albion RFC -0

Bridgwater rugby club travelled to Chard on Friday evening where in front of a large crowd, including many travelling fans, they were beaten by their hosts 27-0.

Despite creating a number of opportunities in both halves and finding themselves camped in Chard territory for periods of the game Bridgwater Rugby Club were unable to break through the home defence.

The visitors kicked off and enjoyed the early phases of the game but failed to capitalise on their chances.

After 15 minutes Chard were awarded a scrum on the half way mark which they drove forward and after gaining considerable ground the ball was kicked to touch near the Albion line.

Chard won the line out

Chard won the line out and for the next five minutes they kept coming forward but on each occasion the Bridgwater Rugby Club defence repelled the attack. The home team then won a series of scrums close to the line after one of which Cam Modley was carded reducing the visitors to 14players.

The hosts continued to create pressure close to the line and after half an hour they eventually took the lead when Will Vining went over for a try that was converted by Emil Szydelko.

The final period of the first half was even and it looked like Chard would go into the break 7-0 up, but just before the whistle Oscar Anderson scored an unconverted try to make it 12-0 at theinterval.

Bridgwater Rugby Club started the second half strongly

Bridgwater Rugby Club started the second half strongly.  Tom Croal made an early break on the left which resulted in a scrum on the Chard five metre line. However the defence held firm and the attack was thwarted.

They came forward once more, again through Croal.  After 10 minutes deep in Chard territory the defence held firm and cleared the ball.  Albion were left without a point.

Bridgwater and Albion kept coming forward but on each occasion they were unable to make it count.

Chard extended lead with 15 minutes remaining

With quarter of an hour remaining Chard extended their lead.  Szydelko picked up a loose ball and charged down the left wing.  He then scored in the corner, making it 17-0.

Five minutes later Jack Elliott added a further try for Chard when he touched down behind the posts.  Szydelko added the extras.

In the last few minutes of the game Albion were reduced to 14 players.  Jay Owens yellow carded and from the resultant penalty Chard took the score to 27-0.

Man down for Albion

Bridgwater & Albion may have been a man down but in the dying seconds of the game they were camped on the Chard line, however once again  were unable to break through the solid home defence.

Just before the final whistle home skipper Luke Aplin was yellow carded.  This was too late for the Albion to take any advantage as it ended 27-0.

Another disappointing defeat on the road.  A game that Albion had their chances but were unable to turn them into points.
