Chosen Hill Former Pupils 31- 30 Bridgwater & Albion RFC
Bridgwater & Albion RFC were involved in another hard-fought, close game on Saturday, with the result in doubt until the final whistle. In the end, however, it was Chosen Hill who claimed victory with a last-minute conversion. This was a disappointing outcome for the visitors, although they take two bonus points from this result.
Despite some early pressure from the Albion, it was Chosen Hill who opened their account first. On five minutes, a long throw to the back of the line-out saw their forwards go over for a converted try. The home side continued the attack, but excellent defence stemmed the attack. However, in the 15th minute, Chosen Hill added to their tally when the forwards drove over for another try.
Albion fought back well, and on 20 minutes, after a strong attacking move down the left, a penalty was awarded. From the catch and drive, Karolis Urbonas bundled over, making the score 12-5.
In the 37th minute, Chosen Hill tried to run the ball out of their own half, but lost it in midfield. Charlie Willcox hacked on and won the race before he dived onto the ball to score an unconverted try. Chosen Hill bounced back to create pressure at the other end, but once again Eoghan Westhoff rescued the situation. This made the score 12-10 at the break.
The 2nd half at Chosen Hill
In the first minute of the second half, good handling involving Jono Hayes, Josh Frost and Kyran Devitt saw Albion being awarded a penalty. Devitt kicked successfully.
From the kick off, a great burst from Taylor Buller enabled the ball to be passed down the line to Devitt, who sent in Hayes near the posts. Devitt added the extras to the try, putting the Albion into a 20-12 lead.
Ten minutes later, Chosen Hill hit back with a try from their centre under the posts, which was converted.
Just before the hour, Albion won the ball. Good work by Devitt and Hayes sent the supporting Westhoff in for an unconverted try. In the 67th minute, a long pass from James Collings to Devitt released Josh Frost, who was tackled in the corner, but Devitt dribbled the ball over the line before diving on it. This made the score 30-19 to the visitors.
Chosen Hill then threw everything into an attack. In the 73rd minute scored a try in the corner, making it 30-24.
Shortly after, Albion were reduced to 14 when Aidan Cable was red-carded for foul play. The visitors conceded several further penalties and following a general warning from the referee, Nathan Golding was yellow-carded, reducing Albion to 13 players.
With the clock ticking down Chosen Hill were awarded a penalty which was kicked to touch, and from the very last line out they drove over, the conversion was slotted home, and the final whistle went, giving the hosts victory by the narrowest of margins.
