Dings Crusaders Seconds 71- 24 Bridgwater & Albion RFC.
Bridgwater & Albion RFC opened their 2025-26 Western Counties (North) campaign with an away fixture against Dings Crusaders Seconds.
The newly promoted Second XV of the National League One side were expected to be tough opponents and so they turned out as right from the start the hosts took the lead with a converted try in the first minute.
Dings then continued their opening onslaught and after 20 minutes had run in a further three converted tries to lead 28-0.
The visitors mounted their first serious attack on 27 minutes when full back James Collings produced a clean break before releasing the ball to young Will Clapham who went over in the corner for an unconverted try. Soon after this Collings left the field injured.
Five minutes later Jon Hill made a good run through before the ball was moved to Karolis Urbonis and Alex Knight who was stopped just short of the line before handing onto debutant Aiden Cable to score an unconverted try.
Before the half time break Dings ran in two more tries one of which was converted to make the score 40-10 at the interval.
For the opening quarter of an hour of the second half the visitors held their own and kept themselves in the game well but on 57 minutes the Dings full back went over in the corner for an unconverted try. From the kick off Dings regathered the ball and scored a converted try making it 52-10.
Bridgwater were far from done however and from a penalty to touch the ensuing line out resulted in a catch and drive that saw Gavin Knight crash over for a try which Jay Owens converted.
The Albion continued to attack and after good work by Alex Knight and Tom West, who was making his 50th first team appearance, Danny Mahoney went over for the bonus point try which Owens converted from the touchline.
However Dings came back strongly in the last few minutes and scored a further three tries, two of which were converted to make the final scoreline 71-24.
The Albion team, somewhat depleted by injury put up a game performance against a side who are likely to be among the top sides in the league.
Next up for the Albion is a trip to play against Taunton Seconds on Saturday 13th September, kick off 3pm.
