Old Redcliffians Second XV 42- 23 Bridgwater & Albion RFC

| 09/03/2026

Bridgwater & Albion RFC made the trip to Bristol to play against an in-form Old Reds Seconds team who enjoyed a three-try burst immediately after half-time and ran out the winners.

Old Reds took the early initiative, but the visitors countered well thanks to good work by Jono Hayes.  Then Taylor Buller and Leigh Parker were awarded a penalty, which Kyran Devitt kicked.  This put them ahead after six minutes.

Reds got themselves onto the scoreboard after 15 minutes when they fed off a stray kick.  This resulted in their scrum half scoring a converted try.

Soon after, the hosts took advantage of an overthrown lineout, which eventually led to another converted try.  Making the score 14-3.

Despite being behind, the Albion were looking to attack at every opportunity and in the 26th minute Devitt slotted home his second penalty.

In the 37th minute Albion won their line out, and after the pack surged forward, Alex Knight went over for an unconverted try.  This made the half time score 14-11.

Half time at Old Reds

Old Reds came out from the half time break fired up and taking full advantage of the slope, in the space of just nine minutes they scored three converted tries to put them into a 35-11 lead.

However, Albion stopped to rot when five minutes later Jon Hill burst through and they were awarded a penalty which was kicked to touch. From the catch and drive Gavin Knight went over for an unconverted  try.

Old Reds continued to attack and in the 65th minute they scored another converted try, to make the score 42-16.

In the 76th minute, Albion, after a free kick, Shaun Mahoney, Aiden Cable and Alex Knight all in turn drove forward before Buller finally crashed over for a try which Devitt converted.

In the dying stages of the game good handling by Josh Frost and Alex Knight almost brought the Albion their fourth try but they just couldn’t cross the line as the game ended 42-23 to Old Reds.

This was the first time that the Albion have failed to claim a bonus point since back they played against the same opponents back in November.
