ROGER GIBBS – BRIDGWATER & ALBION REMEMBERS HIS CONSIDERABLE ASSISTANCE

Senior members of Bridgwater & Albion RFC will remember playing with and enjoying the on and off the field company of Roger Gibbs who passed away recently at the age of 87.  Roger started his rugby football career at North Petherton but in the mid/late 1960’s, he moved in to the Broadway Ground where his much younger brother Robin had played as a Colt (also for Somerset) and was appearing in our senior XV’s.  Like his brother, Roger was mainly a centre but capable of playing on the wing.  He arrived at Albion at a time when the club benefited from his experience and he assisted the younger players around him in developing new Albion teams following the retirements of some of the more senior players in the three-quarter positions.  His guidance was invaluable and many mid-field players will provide testimony to his guidance.  Roger served out the last few years of his playing career mainly in our United XV but often came in to the 1st XV to play a full part in the redevelopment of our playing resources.

Bridgwater & Albion sends its sincere condolences to Roger’s family.  His funeral takes place on Friday 19 December at Sedgemoor Crematorium at 1300.
