Taunton RFC Second XV 33- 26 Bridgwater & Albion RFC
Fielding a side that showed several changes from the previous weekend, which included the return of Taylor Buller and debutant Rowan Bird the visitors produced a much improved performance. They were only narrowly beaten by a Taunton side whose fleet-footed backs looked threatening throughout.
Despite the Albion having the breeze in their favour Taunton spent the opening encounters in their half but in the 10th minute from a scrum the hosts moved the ball wide and their left winger went over in the corner for an unconverted try.
The visitors came back and were unlucky not to score, but Buller was held up over the line.
Taunton mounted a series of attacks but on each occasion the defence held firm. After good work by Danny Mahoney on the wing Jon Hill burst through but the final pass was intercepted.
The next score came from the visitors when from a scrum good handling by the Albion saw Alex Knight send his co-centre Jay Owens over near the posts when he then converted to out his side into the lead.
Karolis Urbonas who was outstanding throughout produced a move that produced a penalty which Owens kicked in the 34th minute to put Albion 10-5 ahead.
Just before half time however Taunton took the lead when their full back picked up a Bridgwater chip ahead and ran in from 60 metres to score a try that was converted making the half time score 12-10.
Following the break two quick converted tries by Taunton in the opening six minutes which took the score to 26-10.
However Albion then knuckled down again worked their way back in, their forwards applied pressure near the line and on the hour Harry Pentelow crashed over for a try which Stuart Heal converted.
Both sides then had further chances to score but the defences held firm. A long run from defence by Mahoney relieved some pressure and after remaining deep in home territory the Albion forwards buzzed the line Hill spotted a gap and went over for a try.
The visitors kept pressing forward to regain the lead, but unfortunately lost the ball in their own half and Taunton cantered over for a soft try that was converted, which almost put them out of site.
