Geoff reflects…

Geoff Reflects……. Beating fifth placed Cullompton at home needed a good performance from us and that is exactly what the team delivered explained Albion’s Director of Rugby Geoff Sluman. It was not just our third win in a row, but our third win in a row where we have gained the full five league points and we have prevented our opponents from gaining any league points. Geoff added that we played some excellent rugby during the match, we didn’t win because the opposition were substandard – their league position does not lie. We won because we played well. Playing conditions were difficult with a strong wind. I was particularly pleased how we managed different aspects of the game. Playing into the wind and playing with the wind required different tactics. At times our forwards had dominant spells and at times our backs had dominant spells. At times we played a kicking game and at times we kept the ball to hand. We combined all of the above at the right times and importantly on the right areas of the pitch. Some weeks a couple of players may have good games but for the Cullompton game all eighteen players had good games and those players have set a new standard for us. Looking forward our next game is away to second place Drybrook. Sluman believes that will be a really tough match. It is fair to say that we were well beaten when we played them on our pitch. They will be even better on their own ground. Having said that, their pitch is a similar playing surface to ours and we know that on our day we are capable of beating any team in this league. We have just comfortably beaten the previously fifth placed team, so our next realistic target will be to beat some teams higher up the league than that – there is no reason why we cant win. We travel with no pressure on us apart from the pressure we put on ourselves and that is a positive situation. We will travel to Drybrook with confidence and ready to take them on. Our 2XV have a home fixture to Tor RFC in the Somerset Premier league. Kick off is at 14:15 and entry is free, please come on down to support our teams. The 3XV are away to Wiveliscombe.
