Bridgwater & Albion RFC 15-32 Old Redcliffians RFC2nd XV

Bridgwater & Albion RFC returned to league action after break, against Old Red’s.  After a promising performance, they were beaten 32-15.

Albion more than hold their own in the initial encounters but in the eighth minute the visitors opened the scoring.  Number 8 Roach went over for a try that was converted by Tomalin.

From the kick off, Albion conceded a penalty which Old Reds kicked to touch. From the line out, the forwards drove, and quick passing along the line saw winger Cade go over for an unconverted try.

Confidence grew with the home side

The hosts grew in confidence as the half proceeded.  After 20 minutes, they kicked a penalty to touch.  This was followed by a scrum from which Rowan Traynor crashed over for a try.  This was converted by the trusty boot of Kyran Devitt.

A period of even play followed, but with 10 minutes until the break Old Reds created space and Cade went over for his second try.  This was again converted by Tomalin.

Albion hit back with skipper Taylor Buller taking the ball up the left supported by Jon Hill.  When the ball came back, Old Reds were offside and Devitt made no mistake with the penalty.  This made the score 10-19 at the interval.

Second half at College Way

Early in the second half, Albion had an opportunity of closing the gap but after gaining a line out on the Old Reds five metre line they lost the ball.  After which there was a period of even play.

On the hour, Old Reds were awarded a penalty which they slotted home to extend their lead.  Albion then conceded another penalty at the kick off, which was also kicked to make it 10-25.

The visitors added to their tally when their scrum half cleverly kicked the ball deep into Albion territory which eventually led to another try in the corner that Tomalin converted.

The home side were now trying hard to reduce the arrears and created several chances, but failed to cross the line. However,  in the closing minutes, Ollie Phillips kicked a penalty to the five metre line and from the line out the forwards won the ball and sent Gavin Knight over the line.  This made the final score Bridgwater & Albion 15 Old Redcliffians Seconds 32.

On Saturday, Albion travel up the M5 to play against Gordano.
