Bridgwater & Albion RFC continued their climb away from the foot of the table with a victory over third placed Old Bristolians on Saturday afternoon, thanks to Kyran Devitt who in the last play of the game kicked the winning penalty.
The hosts only led twice in this high scoring game, once just before half time and the other following the last kick of the game.
The visitors opened the scoring in the fourth minute when some good handling saw full back Scotcher go over for a try. Duncan converted.
Devitt added the extras
Two minutes later however the hosts hit back with a long penalty to touch. The forwards produced a drive. As the ball came out, full back Connor Hull, cut inside to score near the post. Devitt added the extras to.
The Bristolians responded strongly and mounted a number of attacks. On each occasion the home side were able to clear their lines.
During this period Albion were reduced to 14 when they lost Taylor Buller to a yellow card. Despite the visitors trying to make this advantage count they couldn’t cross the try line.
In the 32nd minute Devitt scooped up the ball and raced over from the 22 metre line for a try. He then converted to put Albion ahead 14-7.
From the re-start Bristolians regained the ball and some close passing enabled Davis to score a try which Duncan converted. Almost immediately a loose kick from defence was seized upon by the visitors who ran it well before centre Arthur went over for a try. Duncan converted to make the score 21-14 at half time.
Bridgwater & Albion RFC take charge after the break
Albion came out all guns blazing after the break. Josh Frost and Hull combined well up the left hand side before Buller crashed over for an unconverted try.
In the 46th minute Bristolians extended their lead when they attacked. When the ball came back they created an overlap and winger Duncan went over and converted his own try.
Three minutes later Bristolians picked up a loose clearance and Scotcher ran in for a try. Duncan converted, making it 35-19 to the visitors.
Hull limped off injured but shortly after Albion regained possession and after being held up five metres out they kept the ball from the scrum and James Collings stepped inside to score which Devitt converted making it 26-35.
Two minutes later Bridgwater scored again when Gavin Knight touched down after a forwards rumble, which Devitt converted, making it 33-35.
Old B’s fought back
Old Bristolians countered immediately and burst through for Davies to score an unconverted try making it 33-40.
Into the last 10 minutes of the game the Albion had a penalty. A forward thrust saw Alex Knight go over for an unconverted try making it 38-40.
However Bristolians extended their lead when they took advantage of a loose kick and Scotcher ran in for an unconverted try making ot 38-45.
In the 75th minute the Albion forwards surged forwards from a line out. George Sluman went over for a try which Devitt converted to level the scores at 45-45.
In the final play of the game the hosts were awarded a penalty just to the left of the posts which Devitt duly kicked after which the final whistle went Albion winning 48-45.
