Bridgwater & Albion RFC 52 – Chipping Sodbury RFC – 13

Bridgwater and Albion RFC notched up their third victory of the season.  They proved too strong for visitors Chipping Sodbury on Saturday afternoon.

Not only did the hosts score over 50 points of which Kyran Devitt contributed 22 (two tries and six conversions), but they were well organised, played an exciting brand of rugby  and kept their shape well throughout, much to the delight of the good sized crowd..

The hosts kicked off into the strong wind that was blowing down the ground and were on the attack from the off . After three minutes the ball was passed to Kyran Devitt on the left wing.  Devitt ran round to score behind the posts and then kicked the conversion.

Chipping Sodbury’s forward line – a force to be reconned with

Chipping Sodbury who had a big forward line played their way back into Bridgwater territory.  On 10 minutes were awarded a penalty in front of the posts.  James Bennett slotted home to make it 7-3.

The hosts extended their lead on 20 minutes.  This was achieved following a line out Josh Frost scored a try which Devitt converted.

Sodbury may have been trailing but they created a period of pressure on the Bridgwater line.  Luckily the home defence held firm and the danger was cleared.

Captain – Taylor Buller for the try

With five minutes to go until the break skipper Taylor Buller found himself in space.  He then charged through the middle before crashing over for a try.

With the clock ticking down, Jordan and Taylor Buller combined in a move which led to the ball being passed to Jake Knight.  Knight sidestepped two defenders before scoring a try which Devitt converted making it 26-3 at the interval.

The visitors started the second half well and created pressure on the home defence.  The defence held firm until on seven minutes they were awarded a five metre scrum from which Joe Horton went over for an unconverted try.

Then for Dan Lang, Try awarded

Bridgwater regrouped quickly.  Soon afterwards Dan Lang found himself in space and ran down the left wing before touching down in the corner. The home side went further ahead when the nimble footed Devitt ran from deep inside his own half to score a try.  He  which he then converted.

Three minutes later Gavin Knight who also came on as a replacement made a good run down the left to score a try which Devitt converted.

Despite the home side’s lead the visitors kept coming back.  Going into the final 20 minutes of the game Sharpe found space and went over for an unconverted try.

Half Century for Bridgwater & Albion RFC

With just over five minutes of the match remaining replacement Cam Modley charged through the middle from close range to score a try which brought up the half century, Devitt added the extras to making the final score 52-13 to Bridgwater & Albion.

The Albion are without a game this coming weekend but return to College Way to host Cinderford Second XV on Saturday 14th October.
