Bridgwater and Albion RFC 12- Devonport Services RFC 64

Bridgwater and Albion RFC are still searching for their first victory of the season, after being beaten by a well organised and strong Devonport Services who continued their impressive start to the season.

Despite the scoreline  there were periods in the game when Albion more than held their own and for the first 20 minutes of the second half they were in the ascendancy, suggesting that when they are able to field their full strength side there will be better times ahead.

Evenly balanced opening exchanges

The opening exchanges were evenly balanced but five minutes after kick off After the hosts were reduced to 14 men, when Stuart Heal was yellow carded for a high tackle following which Richard West kicked a penalty to put Services on the board. On 10 minutes a break on the left by the visitors resulted in Meyle going over for a try which West converted. Almost from the kick off Services scored again when Sam Fincham scored a try to the right of the posts which again West converted making it 17-0. Dylan Daley then made a strong run down the wing before touching down right of the posts to which West added the extras.

20 minutes in and Bridgwater and Albion RFC on the attack

After 20 minutes Bridgwater mounted their first serious attack and went deep into the visitors territory but were repelled close to the line by the Services strong defence and unable to get over the try line. This was followed soon afterwards by a good move across the backs which looked certain to result in a try in the right hand corner but the final pass was knocked on.

A line out close to the Bridgwater line on half an hour resulted in Liam Jarvis extending the visitors lead to which West converted.Services were then reduced to 14 following a high tackle by West which saw him shown the yellow card.

Kyran Devitt won ball

With five minutes of the half remaining Kyran Devitt won a ball that had been cleared by the defence and chipped it ahead before collecting it and going over in the right hand corner to put the hosts onto the scoresheet.

Just before half time a scrum on the left hand side led to a try by Andy Pond that Alex Mawdsley converted to make it 38-5 to Services at the break.

Bridgwater and Albion RFC came out strongly after the interval
