Cheddar RFC 10- 57 Bridgwater & Albion RFC 2nd XV

Bridgwater and Albion RFC Seconds got their season off to a flying start with a convincing victory away at Cheddar.

The visitors started strongly and from the kick-off.  A good break from Rowan James saw him pass to Tom Armstrong.  Armstrong went over for a try that Ollie Phillips converted.

Twenty minutes into the game Cheddar had a penalty.  This was converted to make the score 3-7 but soon after Charlie Barnes went over in the corner for an unconverted try.

Albion forwards do the business

Good work from the Albion forwards won the ball back which then found it’s way to Sam Russell.  Russell went over to score a try but the conversion was missed.

Jono Hayes took advantage of a Cheddar mistake to score a try which was converted by the French star Hugo Barthelemy.  Just before the break Cam Modley went over for an unconverted try making the score 3-29 at halftime.

Cheddar started the second half well.  After the restart they went over for try that was converted to make it 10-29.

On 52 minutes good work from the scrum resulted in Hugo going over for the first of his hat-trick of tries, which he duly converted. Tristan Hudson then let Hugo in for his second which he also converted.  Then good work by the backs and forwards set up Hugo for his third which he also converted.

Final try for Albion from Will Roe

With just two minutes left on the clock, Will Roe went over for the final which Hugo also converted to make the full-time score 10-57.

After the game, second-team manager Brendon Goddard, Shaun Mahoney and captain Ollie Phillips were over the moon.

Afterwards, the team manager said: “The team played so well together with youth and the experienced players, with two of last year’s Colts Will Clapham and Tristan Hudson making their debuts, in addition to which great work from Rowan James won him the Man of Match, plus  there was a great debut for the French star Hugo.”
