Cinderford Second XV 28-19 Bridgwater & Albion RFC

Bridgwater and Albion RFC travelled to the Forest of Dean on Saturday to face Cinderford.  Despite a game performance, from a side missing some senior players, they came away pointless.

Cinderford quickly got into their stride.  After gathering the ball from the kickoff, some quick passing saw them take the lead with a converted try in the opening minute.

Albion made their first serious foray in the 17th minute when Connor Hull made a long kick into the home 22, but from the ensuing play the ball was dropped and gathered by the Cinderford scrum half who raced in 60 metres for another converted try, making the score 14-0.

The visitors came back well and following some good work by Karolis Urbonas and Tom Hopkins, the ball went to Jon Hill who went over, but the try was denied because of a forward pass.

On half an hour…

Following a lineout, Albion moved the ball well, and when the ruck formed, Hill found room to go round the Cinderford defence and go over for a fine individual try, which Jay Owens converted.

Just before the break, Albion again won the ball at the line-out and awarded a penalty, which was quickly taken by Josh Frost who made a well-timed pass to Rowan Traynor, who crashed over, making the score 14-12 at the interval.

Cinderford came out strongly after half time, and almost from the kick off, they extended their lead with a converted try.

The visitors bounced back strongly with several good moves involving Charlie Willcox and Hill but sadly, they were unable to add to their score.

In the 57th minute, it was Cinderford who scored next when a break by the left wing saw the ball moved inside where the forwards went over for a converted tr,y making the score 28-12.

The last 20 minutes belonged to Bridgwater, during which Traynor made some good runs deep into the Cinderford 22 and the visitors buzzed the line but again they were unable to turn their advantage into points.

In the 71st minute, a quickly taken penalty by Hill, assisted by another Traynor burst, allowed Frost to go over for a try, which Owens converted.

Albion pressed hard in the final stages of the match but to no avail as it ended 28-19.
