Bridwgater & Albion RFC hopes dashed

BRIDGWATER & Albion RFC’s hopes of pulling off their first victory of the season in Counties One Western North were dashed when they slumped 55-17 away to Clifton Seconds.

It was Clifton’s first success of the season.  They moved above Albion in the table with six points from their opening four matches – two more than their rivals.

Injury-hit Bridgwater went into the match with an understrength side – and they lost a couple of players during the game.

However, Bridgwater began brightly and had the better of the early play before going ahead in the 11th minute.  This was through a try by George Sluman after good play by Taylor Buller. The conversion kick was missed.

Clifton’s pack, bigger and heavier than Bridgwater’s

Clifton, with a much bigger and heavier pack than Bridgwater, went ahead when their stand-off collected his own kick to score a try.  This was converted. Five minutes later the home side scored another try, this time unconverted, to lead 12-5.

On the half-hour, Clifton scored another unconverted try to go 17-5 ahead.  They then added another converted try to lead 24-5. Just before half time, an Albion pass was intercepted and Clifton took full advantage to score another five-pointer to go 29-5 up.

Almost immediately after half time, Bridgwater lost the ball in midfield and Clifton made them pay by snapping up another try which was converted.

Bridgwater & Albion RFC fought back

Bridgwater then had their best spell for some time and Buller burst over for a try which was again not converted.

Five minutes later poor tackling allowed Clifton through for a converted try putting the home side in complete charge at 43-10. Albion lost the ball in midfield and the home side made them pay again with another try.

However, Albion refused to throw in the towel.  Lewis Plece went over from a try which was converted by Buller (48-17).

In the final minute, Clifton went further in front with a try from a catch-and-drive which was also converted.
