Devonport Services RFC 45- Bridgwater and Albion RFC- 13 – South West One (West)

Bridgwater and Albion RFC made the trip down the A38 to face top of the table Devonport Service.  Apart from the opening and closing 10 minutes of the match they gave a good account of themselves and competed strongly.

This game marked the South West One (West)who led the team out onto the field ahead of the match.

Hosts open the scoring

The hosts opened the scoring when after four minutes when hooker Bennett scored a try which Richard Goldsby-West converted.

Two minutes later from the kick off Devonport regained possession and ran the ball across their backs.  Then left winger Toby Knowles scored a try which Goldsby- West converted to extend the lead.

After 10 minutes following a minor skirmish both sides had a player yellow carded.  Shortly after which the visitors were awarded a penalty which Stuart Heal kicked to reduce the arrears.

Back in the game…

For the next 20 minutes Bridgwater and Albion RFC got themselves right back into the game.  They created a series of good moves in many of which Taylor Buller played a prominent part.

On 32 minutes however Devonport went further ahead when they kicked a penalty to touch and from the following line out and the ensuing catch and drive Bennett went over for his second try.

The visitors came back strongly but were unable to add to their tally as it ended 19-3 at the break.

Bridgwater and Albion RFC came back with a strong start in the second half

Bridgwater started the second half strongly with Roger Drabble and Buller involved in a number of moves.  This resulted in a penalty that unfortunately was missed.

In the 48th minute Albion lost both Urbonis and Heal to injury but despite this setback shortly afterwards Knight took a quick penalty which found Will Monro who chipped ahead and then hacked on before scoring a fine solo try, which Kyran Devitt converted.

Bridgwater and Albion RFC continued the attack…

Albion continued to attack and following a long run out of defence by Tom Hopkins they were awarded a penalty which Devitt slotted home to make the score 19-13.

In the final stages of the match however Devonport Services dominated the game and ran in four further tries, two of which were scored by Goldsby-West, who also converted three of the four, as the match finished 45-13.

Replacements all used- James Palmer, Olly Davies and Aiden Robson.
