Frampton Cotterell Colts 12, BARFC Colts 12 (26/09/15)

| 11/10/2015

Colts4Following last weeks Close encounter at Home to Minehead Colts, which Bridgwater & Albion Colts just edged 34-32, Bridgwater again squandered a commanding first half performance, to allow Saturdays hosts Frampton Cotterell Colts to snatch a 12-12 draw in the bright and hot sunshine.

Frampton kicked off and a clean Bridgwater take and kick immediately them under pressure from, a pumped up set of Bridgy backs. Framptons’ own back line fumbled a number of Bridgy kicks and from one of these 10 minutes in, a good pick up and run to the Frampton line from Jordan Ricketts playing at 12, secured a first try for Bridgwater, and was also converted by him.Colts3

For long spells Bridgy dominated but it took a further 20 minutes before winger Shay Keohane took a short pass out wide and sprinted fully 50 meters to add a further Bridgy try. The score stayed that way for Bridgwater until the final whistle.

The second half saw a rejuvenated Frampton attack, which with the aid of various penalties caused some problems for the visitors. five minutes in and Bridgwater saw yellow as Flanker Karoilis Karbonas was binned at a ruck on the Frampton 5 metre line, for pulling in the opposition 9 even though he clearly had the ball. For an unknown reason this resulted in a scrum five for Frampton, and Bridgwater used a winger to match the pack numbers. Lo and behold Framptonn managed to move the ball to that wing and ran in a good converted try to make the score 7 – 12.

Colts2Bridgwater were denied a possible penalty try, after a number of deliberate infringements from the home side including killing the ball just inches from their line. Instead, a Bridgwater scrum was lost against the head and a series of penalties allowed Frampton to push up to halfway from where they ran in a second try.

All in all 12-12 was a fair result, and two points away from home is not to be sniffed at. However, Bridgy could and should have been home and dry before the second half kicked off. The Colts next home fixture is on 10 October when Wellington come calling, then on Sunday 18th October they travel to Kingsbridge in the National Colts Cup.
