Geoff Says…

| 21/01/2019

Bridgwater and Albion director of rugby Geoff Sluman was very happy with his sides 38-13 victory at Coney Hill on Saturday.

“We scored six tries away from home gaining the maximum five league points. We never had things all of our own way but we did put in a performance that let us take away the maximum we could. We rotated some of the squad and gave opportunities to some players in addition to which we had a debut performance and other positional changes.

“Three of our tries were from the forwards and three by backs so we displayed attacking capability across the team. So all in all, we got the maximum league points that we could have and gained experience and knowledge, to do that was a success for us.”

Geoff continued: “ Looking at the league table we remain in fifth place. Six points above the team below us and just one point behind the team above in fourth and a further single point behind third place. If you asked us earlier if we would be satisfied being two points behind third place we would have probably said “no”, we would want to do better but in reality we are in a good position. I think some of the fixtures have gone “our way” and there are bigger challenges ahead so we are not deluding ourselves but we are in a good place to approach those future challenges.”

Looking to this coming weekend’s match the Albion boss said: “This Saturday we return to College Way to host Keynsham RFC who we beat away 29-22 back in October.

“We are working hard on never taking anything for granted. We assume all teams are developing and are trying to improve so with a close result last time around we need to perform again.

“Keynsham are a “gritty” team and have had some good results. In January they beat Okehampton whom are a very capable team and currently league leaders.

He added: “Kick off on Saturday will be at 3pm so please come on down and support if you can.”
