Geoff Says

| 06/09/2018

Bridgwater and Albion director of rugby Geoff Sluman was pleased with the way that the side played at Thornbury and reflecting on the match he said:  “It’s always good to start off the season with a win, and even better when its away from home especially against a side we have traditionally struggled with on their own pitch, which makes it even better, so there are lots of good things about the result.

“If we are critical of ourselves which we want to be because we want to find the areas to improve upon, we were perhaps rather slow at the start and conceded points in the first 10 minutes or so, or perhaps it was that Thornbury were quicker out of the blocks than us.

“However our resilience after that was tremendous, they dug deep, they worked hard and they did all of the things that we have been working on. Our performance in defence was exceptional and everybody worked for each other really well in the defensive phases and it felt like if we stuck at doing the right things then we were going to get the right result.

“However they are a tough and competitive side and were pretty capable, but we put in a good stand out team performance and a great effort all round.”

Looking ahead to this weekend when the Albion travel to play at Hornets the director of rugby said: “They came down from the league above so are used to playing  at a higher level, which we will be very aware of.

“We also think that we will be playing on their 4G pitch, which we don’t have a lot of experience of playing on, so that will be another challenge for us.

“However after winning at Thornbury and the way we have been in preseason we have no fear and travel with confidence and we will go a try to take the game to them.”

Bridgwater and Albion have one slight injury concern and that it over Ollie Steward who took a knock to his knee and had to come off.  However Albion do have several players who were not available for the Thornbury match returning to the squad.

Geoff added: “We will have two tough sessions with the squad this week but we are keen and ready to go!”
