It’s Geoff Says

| 02/02/2020

Geoff Sluman the Bridgwater and Albion director of rugby was disappointed with the outcome of the team’s match at Hornets on Saturday.

Reflecting on the match Geoff said: “ This was a disappointing result for us. We competed evenly enough during the first half but were overpowered and outpaced in the second half. That was exactly the time we thought the opposition’s bigger and heavier team would start to fade. However total credit to them, that was the time they just upped every department by ten or twenty percent and they ran away with it.

“The artificial 4G pitch at Hornets does make it a different sort of game but ordinarily that would have suited us so that was not really a cause of the result.

“There was not one thing that we did wrong, it was a combination of quite a few little things that just built. It was uncharacteristic of us but some lessons have been learned.”

Geoff went on: “Our Second XV were scheduled to play at home to Cheddar Valley. However sadly we had to postpone that game because the pitch was just not up to standard. We are probably just paying the price for over using the pitches in previous periods of wet weather.

This was disappointing as the Seconds do not have a scheduled match next weekend so it is interrupting the good run they were having.”

Looking ahead Geoff said: “Next week the first team are at home to Keynsham RFC who are currently just four places below us in the league but they won 22-7 earlier in the season when we played them away.

“The Bridgy team will be looking to right some wrongs from both this weeks performance and that earlier loss against Keynsham. Kick off will be slightly earlier than our normal at 14:30 to allow for an earlier finish to watch the England Six nations game on the big screens in the clubhouse after the game.”

Geoff added: “Please come along and support the Bridgy boys and then enjoy the atmosphere in the clubhouse afterwards to support England (or if you are from north of the border- Scotland!).
