South West One (West)

Bridgwater slipped to a disappointing third successive defeat when they travelled to Keynsham on Saturday where they were beaten by a strong and competitive side.

This game marked the 100th first team appearance for Tom Fournier d `Albe who led the side out at the start of the game.

The hosts were straight into the ascendancy from the kick off and after nine minutes they were rewarded when Ryan Hardy scored a try that centre Challenger converted.

Bridgwater countered well and Dylan Evans made a break from his own 22 which in the end sadly didn’t result in a score. On 20 minutes however the visitors got themselves onto the board when following a good move in midfield Ryan Barnett went over for a try that Stuart Heal converted.

Keynsham responded strongly and created a period of pressure, but the Albion defended well and repelled their best efforts. The hosts were reduced to 14 men when they had a player yellow carded after maul was pulled down, and during his absence Bridgwater enjoyed a period of pressure, but were unable to translate that into points.

Right at the end of a long first half Keynsham scrum half Pearce made a good run and chipped the ball behind the Albion defence where Carr collected and went over for a try which Challenger converted to make the score 14-7 at the break.

The visitors started strongly with Shaum Mahoney and Roger Drabble creating strong breaks, but once again these went unrewarded.

However it was Keynsham who extended their lead in the 46th minute when Number 8 Weston went over for an unconverted try. The home side continued strongly and on 55 minutes they were awarded a penalty which Challenger slotted home, to make it 22-7.

In the final quarter of the game Bridgwater mounted several attacks but none resulted in any points, while at the other end Keynsham pressed for their bonus point also to no avail.
