Tribute Somerset League Division One

Cheddar Valley 14- Bridgwater and Albion RFC Second XV -74.

Bridgwater and Albion RFC 2nd XV ended their season in style with a resounding victory over a weakened Cheddar Valley side on Easter Saturday.

Fielding a team that included several players with first team experience the Albion were far too strong for their hosts, who despite the score kept their heads up and remained competitive throughout the contest.

By half time Albion had moved into a commanding 52-0 lead while after the break Cheddar scored two converted tries to make the final score 74-14.

Winger Nick Parry scored a hat trick of tries and Jon Hill two,  with the others coming from George Sluman, Dan Lang , Tom Hopkins, Jay Owens, Ethan Trebble-Westlake, Simon Buck and Taylor Buller.

Jon Hill converted seven of the tries!

Geoff Sluman the Albion’s director of rugby said: “This was a great way to finish the season with another victory. If we hadn’t been deducted points for not fulfilling games then the team would have ended up fifth or sixth in the table.

“We had some covid issues as well as injuries which has meant that on a number of occasions players have had to step up into our first team so the seconds have suffered- but that’s what the team is about in many ways.”

Geoff added: “I would like to pay tribute to Dan Lang the second team captain. Captaining the seconds is not just about what happens on the pitch but the dedication off the pitch too in managing the team. Yet again, Dan has been an unsung hero for us, and I wish to extend mine and the clubs thanks to him for all of the work he does.”
