Midweek thoughts with Simon Morrell
Bridgwater and Albion head coach Simon Morrell made no excuses about the team’s result against table toppers Weston super Mare on Saturday.
Simon said: “The week before we said not to get too excited after our opening victory and this week ‘s game put that into perspective. We came up against a full strength Weston side. Who saw off Bideford in the rain and against us they had dry weather and made us pay.
“We could hide behind that and also say that we were considerably weakened but we would be foolish not to have learned something from the game against Weston.
“After watching the game it was easy to see areas where we need to sharpen up our game, which is very useful for us and we can take that from it. However we are the first team to have had a crack at a full strength Weston side.”
Looking ahead to Saturday’s match away at Newent who are second in the table Simon said: “Weston have set the benchmark so this week we have no option but to respond. We can’t go through the autumn fumbling our way through games, we need to get sharper and that’s one of the areas we have been focusing on.
“This week we have got some of the boys back James Forrest, our left winger will be playing, and James Collins comes into the side at 12 and Shaun Mahoney will play at hooker.
Simon added: “I know that Newent have got a few players out and we have worked very hard in both of our training sessions so we will be hoping for a much better performance against them.”
