Newent 29- Bridgwater and Albion RFC -20

Bridgwater and Albion RFC are still waiting to notch up their first victory of the season after losing out at Newent, at the end of a game that they could so easily have won- if they had taken their chances. As it was the Forest of Dean side took their scoring opportunities and ran out the 29-20 winners.

Newent took an early lead after kicking a penalty and extended their advantage when an error in the Bridgwater half resulted in a try for the hosts which was converted to make it 10-0.

Stuart Heal kicked a penalty

The visitors opened their account when Stuart Heal kicked a penalty from in front of the posts.

Bridgwater then enjoyed a period of considerable pressure, and although they were close to the Newent try line they were unable to turn their possession into points and conceded a penalty.

Newent cleared their lines well and made a good break that was ended when the ball was driven into touch five metres out. A good Bridgwater line out resulted in a kick to touch on the half way line and from the passage of play that followed the visitors were awarded penalty which Heal kicked.

Newent gained posession…

Approaching half time Newent gained possession in their own half and started a move that saw them score a try in the corner, in response to which Heal slotted home a penalty to make the score 15-9 at the break.

Soon after the interval Bridgwater were awarded a penalty which Heal kicked bringing them to within three points of their hosts.

Soon after though the visitors then found themselves reduced to 14 players when Mike Saunders was yellow carded, and from the resultant scrum Newent scored a try that was converted to make the score 22-12.

Will Munro back in action at Bridgwater and Albion RFC…

Will Munro, returning to the Bridgwater side after being injured on the opening day of the season, added pace to the attack throughout and he was rewarded when he crossed for an unconverted try in the corner. When Heal kicked another penalty it took Bridgwater to within two points of their hosts.

In the final minutes however Newent sealed their victory when they scored a converted try to make it 29-20 at the final whistle.
